Shrila Prabhupada mentions in one lecture that Daksa was expert in begetting and maintaining children. That was his expertise! This is not what one would want to be known by.
What should a monk be expert in?
In an interview, HG Radheshyam Prabhu is being asked by HG Amogh Lila Prabhu about what he feels are the positive qualities that he possesses. In reply, HG Radheshyam Prabhu mentions that wherever good association is there, he never compromises that, he always runs for the same. One more thing that he mentions is he is blessed with the quality of taking maya very seriously.
If a monk wants to have expertise in, here are a few things he should be expert in to be free from the dangers of falling down:
1] Humble menial service:Â Brahmacari ashram is a station of menial servant. Whatever is told, one should humbly want to follow. If one gives up menial service, danger can strike any moment.Â
2] Taking association of devotees: A monk should also be expert to take like-minded, elevated, inspiring association. The real juice of spiritual life comes in the association of devotees. And for a monk, loneliness may eat him up. So, it is very necessary he has a few good friends whom he can confide in.
3] Working for benefit of guru: guror-hitam: A monk’s life is not for his own. His life is wholly and solely dedicated to the service of his guru. If one is fixed in pleasing the spiritual master, pleasant and unpleasant events can be tolerated easily.
4] Avoiding association of women: Carelessness can prove fatal to a monk. Don’t even drivers meet with death with a moment’s carelessness? A brahmacari, if not strict in avoiding unnecessary association with women paves an easy journey in ruining his aspirations for total dedication.
