Hare Krishna Mahamantra is the greatest gift that we have received in our lives. Recently, when I was chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra, I was reflecting on the words – Hare Krishna – These can be taken to mean Lord Caitanya, and Rama to mean Lord Nityananda. Nityananda Rama we say. And Lord Caitanya is non-different than Radha and Krishna.
When Gopal Bhatta Goswami was serving Radha Raman Deities, he once thought that his father had told him to engage in the service of Lord Caitanya, so he is not actually fulfilling his father’s instructions. Immediately on the next day, he had a vision wherein the form of Radha Raman manifested Himself as Gauranga! And Gopal Bhatta became convinced that his service to Radha Raman was non-different than his service to Lord Caitanya.
So, when we are chanting the Holy Names of Krishna, we are also chanting the Holy Names of Gaura-Nitai. And if we remember Gaura always, two things of the many things will happen:
1] We can accomplish any difficult task
kathañcana smṛte yasmin
duṣkaraṁ sukaraṁ bhavet
vismṛte viparītaṁ syāt
śrī-caitanyaṁ namāmi tam
Things that are very difficult to do become easy to execute if one somehow or other simply remembers Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. But if one does not remember Him, even easy things become very difficult. To this Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu I offer my respectful obeisances. (CC Adi 14.1)
2] We will develop love for Srimati Radharani and Krishna
yathā yathā gaura-padāravinde
vindeta bhaktiṁ kṛta-puṇya-rāśiḥ
tathā tathotsarpati hṛdy-akasmād
rādhā-padāmbhoja-sudhāmbu-rāśiḥ
“As devotion unto the lotus feet of Śrī Gaurasundara is attained by a greatly pious person, inevitably the ocean of nectar which is the service of the lotus feet of Śrī Rādhā is accordingly born within his heart.” (Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛta 88)
PS: I had written this a few months back, but I was looking for a reference if we can take the chanting of Hare Krishna to mean Gaura Nitai also. Today, while reading the introduction of Caitanya Charitamrita, I came across the following statement written by Shrila Prabhupada.
“In the mahā-mantra—Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare / Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare—the word ”Rāma” refers to Balarāma. Since Lord Nityānanda is Balarāma, ”Rāma” also refers to Lord Nityānanda. Thus Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Rāma addresses not only Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma but Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityānanda as well.“
