Arjuna asks Krishna about the sinful urges that completely cloud the mind and intelligence. He says,
atha kena prayukto ‘yaṁ
pāpaṁ carati pūruṣaḥ
anicchann api vārṣṇeya
balād iva niyojitaḥ
O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, by what is one impelled to sinful acts, even unwillingly, as if engaged by force?
Krishna answers that lust is the cause of this great sin, and one must control and regulate the senses in order to be free from the enticement of the mind and senses.
Someone may feel, “Isn’t controlling our own mind and intelligence difficult? And to control senses is also not so easy. Is there any other way?”
The devotees of Krishna are more merciful than Krishna. And sometimes, by Krishna’s grace, they even give solutions that can be more appealing than what Krishna says. We find in Srimad Bhagavatam how Yudisthira Maharaja was even not pacified by Krishna, but later Bhisma was able to accomplish that task.
What do devotees say about conquering sin?
Narottama Dasa Thakura says that simply by seeing devotees, simply by coming closer to devotees, the sins flee!
jāhāra nikaṭe gele pāpa dūre jāy
emona doyāla prabhu kebā kothā pāy
Where does anyone find such a merciful personality by whose mere audience all sins go far away?
gańgāra paraśa hoile paścate pāvan
darśane pavitra koro-ei tomāra guṇ
After bathing in the waters of the sacred Ganges many times, one becomes purified, but just by the sight of you, the fallen souls are purified. This is your great power.
Pariksit Maharaja also confirms this when he says to Sukadeva in SB 1.19.34,
sānnidhyāt te mahā-yogin
pātakāni mahānty api
sadyo naśyanti vai puṁsāṁ
viṣṇor iva suretarāḥ
Just as the atheist cannot remain in the presence of the Personality of Godhead, so also the invulnerable sins of a man are immediately vanquished in your presence, O saint! O great mystic!
When we take association of devotees, the devotion present in their heart has the power to vanquish all our sins. What to speak when we constantly associate with devotees? Simply a desire to associate with devotees, and remembrance of devotees has that capacity.
yeṣāṁ saṁsmaraṇāt puṁsāṁ
sadyaḥ śuddhyanti vai gṛhāḥ
kiṁ punar darśana-sparśa-
pāda-śaucāsanādibhiḥ
Simply by our remembering you, our houses become instantly sanctified. And what to speak of seeing you, touching you, washing your holy feet and offering you a seat in our home?
Pariksit Maharaja says here that remembrance of devotees leads to sanctification of entire house!
Our heart has to become Vrindavan – mora mana vrindavan (CC Madhya 13.137). Vrindavan is a place where Krishna resides along with His devotees. Even when Krishna goes to Mathura and Dvaraka, Krishna’s devotees never leave Vrindavan. If our heart has to become Vrindavan, we must bring devotees into our life. And we must never forget them! Then Krishna will Himself be attracted to stay in such a heart where all His devotees reside!!!!
Great Article!!! Thanks a lot!
