Is Krishna Lusty?

Some people doubt if Krishna was lusty. Some people are convinced that Krishna is lusty. Some people even imitate Krishna saying that, if he could do so, why can’t we?

Before judging Krishna was lusty or not, the following things need to be pondered upon:

For a person who can arouse love in the hearts of others by purifying their putrid hearts, how can such a person be lusty?

In today’s day and age also, the mere sight of someone having conjunctivitis makes another person affected with the same disease. For one who takes darshan of Krishna, their lust gets evaporated. How can such a person be lusty?

For a person whose servants are also free from the desire to enjoy anything material, how can that person be lusty?

For a person who is self-satisfied, who doesn’t need anyone, how can lust take shelter in the heart of such a person?

For one from whom the most beautiful women originate, and who is not even affected by them, how can such a person be lusty?

For a person who is never seen to get angry (anger is the by-product of unfulfilled lust), how can such a person be lusty?

Srimad-Bhagavatam mentions two slokas that describe how Krishna could not be agitated by the charming glances of the queens of Dvaraka.

patnyas tu śoḍaśa-sahasram anaṅga-bāṇair
yasyendriyaṁ vimathitum karaṇair na śekuḥ

The arched eyebrows of these sixteen thousand queens enchantingly expressed those ladies’ secret intentions through coyly smiling sidelong glances. Thus their eyebrows boldly sent forth conjugal messages. Yet even with these arrows of Cupid, and with other means as well, they could not agitate Lord Kṛṣṇa’s senses.

yasyendriyaṁ vimathituṁ kuhakair na śekuḥ

Although the queens’ beautiful smiles and furtive glances were all spotless and exciting, and although they could conquer Cupid himself by making him give up his bow in frustration, and although even the tolerant Śiva could fall victim to them, still, despite all their magical feats and attractions, they could not agitate the senses of the Lord.

Krishna is not affected by the childish remarks of unintelligent people of this world. Many of the times, people apply their own mundane consciousness on Krishna, and because such a thing doesn’t fit their intelligence, they conclude that Krishna is lusty.

But, does the sun ever bother about someone who is wanting to spit on it? In fact, one who tries to spit on the sun, he himself becomes the recipient of that!!
