Today, while chanting a few prayers and verses were coming in my mind to offer to Their Lordships. I also was feeling that I have got no realization of Krishna’s form, His qualities and His pastimes. Then I thought, “I desire to see Krishna. But what will I do seeing Krishna? Naturally, I would want to serve Him.” Then Shrila Prabhupada’s meaning of Hare Krishna maha-mantra came to my mind – “O Hare, energy of Krishna, O Krishna, please engage me in Your service!”
What a beautiful meaning and prayer Shrila Prabhupada has given us! Our original position is that we are by nature servants of Krishna – jivera svarupa haya krsnera nitya dasa. Due to maya’s unlimited whips, we have forgotten this position and we are trying to enjoy and exploit maya.
Shrila Prabhupada’s spiritual master also would say – “Do NOT try to see Krishna, but serve Him in such a way that He is eager to see you.”
By this meaning of the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra, Shrila Prabhupada is giving an entrance in the unlimited blissful pastimes of the Divine Couple, and he is giving a chance to assist Radha and Krishna’s servants.
And when we are being engaged in services here in this material world, isn’t that a fulfillment of our prayer? Definitely it is. The service done here has the potential to give us entry for service in the spiritual world. Actually, it is the same. When we serve Radha and Krishna, we cannot serve Them in a material realm. They are not bound by space and time. When are constantly engaged in chanting the Holy Names and serving Krishna, we don’t belong to this world!
Therefore, it is said,
īhā yasya harer dāsye
karmaṇā manasā girā
nikhilāsv apy avasthāsu
jīvan-muktaḥ sa ucyate
“A person acting in Kṛṣṇa consciousness (or, in other words, in the service of Kṛṣṇa) with his body, mind, intelligence and words is a liberated person even within the material world, although he may be engaged in many so-called material activities.”
Therefore, when we are chanting the Holy Names, we should not allow us to get distracted and get side-tracked. We must not allow plan making happen in the back of our mind. When chanting has the potential to connect us with the divine grace of Radha and Krishna, why should anything else bother us? It is just us and the Holy Name.
