Caitanya Caritamrita describes the real grace of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda. As brothers, they descend to this earth to deliver the fallen conditioned souls in the age of Kali. Krishnadas Kaviraja Goswami compares them to the sun and the moon.
Just as the sun and the moon dissipate the darkness and reveal external objects, the two brothers dissipate the darkness of the heart. They help us see what is worth seeing.
But they don’t do so directly. Rather, through Their grace, we get acquainted with the book Bhagavata and the person Bhagavata. Bringing the souls closer to Bhagavatam and the pure devotee is Lord Caitanya’s and Lord Nityananda’s mercy.
dui bhāi hṛdayera kṣāli’ andhakāra
dui bhāgavata-saṅge karāna sākṣātkāra
These two brothers [Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityānanda] dissipate the darkness of the inner core of the heart, and thus They help one meet the two kinds of bhāgavatas [persons or things in relationship with the Personality of Godhead].
eka bhāgavata baḍa—bhāgavata-śāstra
āra bhāgavata—bhakta bhakti-rasa-pātra
One of the bhāgavatas is the great scripture Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and the other is the pure devotee absorbed in the mellows of loving devotion.
dui bhāgavata dvārā diyā bhakti-rasa
tāṅhāra hṛdaye tāṅra preme haya vaśa
Through the actions of these two bhāgavatas the Lord instills the mellows of transcendental loving service into the heart of a living being, and thus the Lord, in the heart of His devotee, comes under the control of the devotee’s love. CC Adi 1.98-100
Any opportunity to go deeper into Srimad Bhagavatam, and any occasion to associate with the Lord’s pure devotee is the causeless mercy of Mahaprabhu. For us, Bhagavatam is so easily accessible and available. Also, there is no dearth of devotees. Haven’t we already received the mercy of Lord Caitanya and Nityananda?
Yet, when we forget what we have, we waste our time in squeezing happiness through material objects which have no rasa. The greatest misfortune is to waste our time in reading mundane subject matters, including news, politics, gossip etc., and to associate with materialists.
Therefore, a sincere aspirant of bhakti must try to associate with the two bhagavatas who are mercy manifestations of the most magnanimous incarnations. Then there is no doubt that we will develop love for Krishna in this very lifetime.
